Mel Browne
CEO/Coordinator

(Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure & maintenance)

Mel is a passionate Tradeswoman of the 21st Century that never relents in her desire to achieve the best results. She goes above & beyond the mission field, which she believes is her life's calling. Mel has been awarded a number of scholarships over the years during her vocational years in study at the Manukau Institute of Technology.

She has worked in the field of Electrical & Electronic Engineering spanning more than 2 decades and is currently a Practice Licensed Electrical Inspector & Electrician covering Domestic Commercial & Industrial Electrical. Mel has been very fortunate to work with many companies over the years as a service & installation sparky as well as a technician in the electronics industry, and was awarded the NAWIC Tradeswoman of the year in 2017.

20 years ago there was only 2% of women in the related trades. According to 2018 stats nz, there has been improvement, but still a very long way to go. Mel is an advocate for women in trades and has gone to high schools across Auckland to mentor young & all women to take up a trade as it is well underrated and it is a lucrative & exciting career path.

She was blessed to be able to travel to Samoa in 2009 when the tsunami hit the village of Savaii, with a wonderful team of volunteers. She has also volunteered for habitat for humanity, using her skills to help families build their new homes.

"My toolbox is fully equipped with lots of goodies that aren't taken for granted.  I have been blessed to be able to learn and experience things over the years, which have helped to make a difference with my next project. In most cases we can make a difference simply because we have the skillset and compliance, so we are able to sort it right away without struggling for a budget. This is the advantage of our team to our stakeholders organisations. Because that's what communities do together. I am driven by passion and a desire to believe my Faith in GOD, and believe in using my tools to bring change. That's what we are achieving here at Smiths Ave, and why we have come together to combine our gifts from above. I am here to do my bit in working alongside others to instill the Mana & Aroha which is well needed in today's changing society."
